no one ever gets used to pain

it's like i've been here before just RECENTLY.

"so what on earth am i doing here again?"

i've got two answers:

ONE, i didn't LEARN from it.
TWO, i took the short cut.

so now i've got two things to deal with:

focus and process.
FOCUS. that i may really learn from it.
PROCESS. that i may not miss the important lessons.

am i making sense? idc. whatever. i'm talking to myself now.

Alektorophobia.

This is an intense, irrational fear of chickens. I didn’t know na may sakit palang ganito. It’s a state of feeling like there’s no way out. Some alektorophobic individuals only fear the animal itself, while others are so severely compromised, that they will not eat their meat (I have a friend whose fear is this severe). Fortunately, I belong to the first group.

Heart Palpitations. Breathlessness. Hyperventilation. Trembling. Rapid Heartbeat. Feeling Out of Control. Feeling Trapped and Unable to Escape.Intense Feeling of Impending Disaster. These happen to me each time a hen comes near me.

The cause of my phobia?

When I was six years old, my brother and I love hunting chicken eggs in our yard. We are surrounded by neighbourhoods whose animals are these domesticated fowls. Back then, we don’t yet have tall hurdles so hens would fly over our place and hatch their babies within our field. My mom would then cook what we have gathered which I couldn’t recall if I ever happen to eat one. I just enjoy the pleasure of having our dirty tucked-in shirts filled with raw eggs.

One morning, I was surprised when I checked the vase in front our door house and saw some white thingy – a hint that there are eggs waiting to be hunted again. As I eagerly get one, I heard a sound from my back of what it seemed to be clapping of wings. When I turned to look and right in front my very eyes was the face of a mad hen with her beak widely opened. I’ve never seen a hen as ugly and frightening as that one. She was a meter away from me when I had my consciousness back. I ran as fast as I could and went inside the house. With half a second left, I reached the door and fell on the floor with my face down. I was crying and still on the floor when my mom saw me. I couldn’t forget the face of the angry hen. That night, I had a fever. From then on, I always get easily startled. I forgot how many nightmares I had after that incident. It was as if that hen was haunting me in my dreams. My last nightmare of chickens was when I was 15.

I’m 21 now, still living in the same village where almost all households are mastering the art of raising poultry. This is my struggle each time I go outside. And I never get used to it. Sometimes, I ask someone to walk with me. Minsan pag minamalas, may makakasakay ka sa jeep na sabungero at daladala ang manok... Siyempre what else can I do, bababa ako. But if that man is seated near the end of the vehicle at kung bababa ako, madadaanan ko yung manok, I'll remain seated nalang and just close my eyes and pray.

My Dad won’t understand my fear. He said I should overcome it. Believe it or not, I TRIED. But that only worsened my phobia. So that desensitization thing? It never worked for me. They advised me to look at the picture first, watch a video of live chickens after, then get a staff toy. . . I didn’t even surpass the first step. That’s how serious my phobia is – I can’t even stare at their picture. Last year, someone gave my parents chicken figurines and my mom placed it in our living room. It was a long debate. I couldn’t stay in our living room with those figurines around me. After a week, my parents took pity on me and they removed those little items.

I’m letting you all know that I have an extreme phobia on chickens! So please don’t dare scare me of either hen or rooster or you’ll end up rushing me to the ER! Yung iba kasi pag alam nilang takot ka sa isang bagay, lalo ka nilang tatakutin. Please never do this to me. I’m serious. One time we were in a hotel, and the helper asked me what would I do if daw we were trapped in that 11th floor room at may manok na nakapasok. I won’t think twice, TATALON AKO! I know, it’s an exaggerated, irrational fear of chickens.

"Find a work you love, and you never have to work at all."

This was me in Manila. Before this, let me share a brief story of what has been like a week ago.

I worked 12 hours a day, uncompensated. But that was not the issue. Before I accepted the job, I asked the supervisor if I can have Thurs-Sunday as my off days since the minimum hours required for volunteer nurses is just 36 hours per week. So that meant three days (Mon-Wed) on duty in a given week. They agreed and so I took their offer. But after a week, I was surprised when I saw my new schedule posted on the bulletin board. And you may guess, it’s different from what I have just requested and agreed upon.

The problem is not with my employer, it’s about me not having the prerogative to choose my off. It’s about me having the kind of spirit that I feel I deserve to be treated justly. I am working for free, and yet my appeals are being neglected. I know that life is unfair. But I do also know that God has something better than what I left behind. I can do better than taking vital signs every 4 hours. Why settle for anything less?

After two weeks of being employed in that institution (well, I don’t even think it’s close to employment), I submit my resignation letter at the HR Department. Without a word, they allowed me to go.

Mom talked to me after that incident. She warned me about my inclination of always resigning. Believe it or not, I’m aware of that. Months ago, when I was still working in an English Academy, I asked my boss for a one-day leave because it was my oath taking day, but he didn’t allow me even after I begged. The following day, I handed him my resignation letter.

Well, I’m not proud of it actually. I know I am leaving a negative impression to my employers. That took a lot of courage to leave something like that. But that's faith. Trusting God that He has something better for me was risky, yet I know it'll be all worth everything.

Kaya nga sobrang natamaan ako sa title ng post ko. So currently, I’m looking for a good job. I went to Manila last Friday and hopefully within this year, we’ll be able to work there. I know it would take long kaya nga pinila ko na resume ko. There’s this place in Manila where my heart felt it belongs there. Nah. It’s a peaceful place - far from the busy streets. But while waiting to be moved there, I’ll be working in a hospital near our place. Idk.

I just BELIEVE God's promises and TRUST His plans for me...
It’s funny how little things can make me smile after a long stressful day. Here are some weirdoes from my contacts, and their messages that made my weekend:

Saturday:

kids

You little creatures stole all my energy! Ang kuleeeeeeeeeeet. Hahaha. But I love you all still. Your one big hug is enough to make my day again (:

But after 2nd service, still I got a negative a energy level talaga. Haha. So I went inside the sanctuary and prayed. I felt good after hearing the worship band sing. Seriously, they should make an album. I bet it'll be platinum in a week or two :D

Speaking of kids, it was so surprising, my little [spiritual] brother and I finally had the chance to talk with each other. It’s been exactly one month since the last time we did. I missed him a lot I thought I’d cry. Good thing I didn’t or else he’ll laugh his head off and I would suffer from humiliation (that kiddo’s a nuts) :D

It was a short chat. Yet I think, aside from the new haircut, I got just enough of what I wanted to know about him. I was sooooooo thrilled when he broke to me that news. It was then that I appreciate that five-minute chat. Oh. Dad has to know that I should have my lil brother back. So done with the discipline. Hahaha. Seriously, I know better now :P

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOREN!!!

What is the most fun the two of you have ever had together?

-M2M (feeling high school). A lot. What I can't forget was when she poured cold water on me while I was throwing up in their garden :D

with LOREN, the lady in white [we're not twin btw].

Did you ever fight?
-Do we fight? Fake arguments, I guess. Especially during Mafia games. Haha. But I can't recall if we ever fight over something talaga.

If she had to wear either short-shorts or a tube top, which would she choose?
-Short-shorts.

If she won the lottery, what is the first thing she'd buy for herself?
-Car. So we won't have to worry whose boyfriend will be kind enough to drive us home (she lives next to our kanto).

we're not triplet :D

What would she say is her best quality?
-Haha. She's kinda humble pamo. Let me just say it for her. She has a strong personality. She can very well hide the pain. But not from us.

I love her so much. She's like my sister. I miss her na.

dear husband,

i have to confess something to you. there's this other man coming in between us. sorry. i love you but my heart got stuck in his. this was out of my plan. i was actually on my way to meet you when i accidentally bumped and fell into him.

to add to my unfaithfulness, he would come to my place while you're not yet around. he'd tell stories and make me smile. sometimes, he would drive me home, check on me from time to time. he was so caring that i almost thought he was you. but as time passes by, i am starting to realize that he wasn't you. if he were you, he'll never leave me in pain. if he were you, he'll let me enter his world as i allowed him to get in mine. but he just won't. the worst thing is, as he walked away, he took with him my heart that was supposedly yours.

yes, i am in pain. so won't you come and rescue me tonight? won't you wrap me in your arms and hold me tight? sing me the songs i've been wanting to hear from you. tell me you love me. tell me i'm the only one you've been searching for. and if it's not too much to ask, get my heart back from that stranger. seal it, and never let it go.

sorry i didn't wait.
i'll see you on our wedding day.
but don't be late.
a stranger might come again and take me away.

let the pain remain

Had a great talk with Daddy God today! :) Last night kasi was kinda madrama. . . Kuya Chuck asked us to share something personal. When it was my turn to speak, I CRIED. I tried to stop the tears from falling, but that was a no-brain act – my voice was already trembling. So I let the tears flow. And it was actually a relief. I didn’t realize how much pride was killing me for the past week. I couldn’t admit to anyone that I was actually feeling weak, getting tired and drained. I almost gave up, I almost quit. But praise God when He reminded me that I am not a quitter. We’ll both finish this race.

I told God everything (what can I keep to Him anyway?). He knows that I’m hurting. He knows that I get discouraged, that I thought of giving up. Then I asked Him to take away what I feel . . . the love . . . and so the pain. It is right to conclude then that I was asking Him to take away that love so I wouldn’t be feeling this pain. Self-centered emotions.

“What glory then will you give to Me without the pain?”

Dying to self. . . Setting aside selfish desires. . . Embracing the pain. . . THIS IS REAL SELF SACRIFICE, I thought to myself. God allowed me to be alone, to be in this tough situation, so I would need Him all the more. I would cling to Him and earnestly seek His face. There’s nothing I need but His presence. He made me realize that His presence is better than this life. His steadfast love is better than what the world could give.

Let this pain remain if it’s the only way that I could bring glory to Your Name. Let this pain remain in my heart if it moves me closer to my First Love.

- - -

I learned that to worry is to dishonor You. To fear about tomorrow is displeasing to You. We shall fear nothing but You. Men fail, but Your Word and Promises never fail. You are a faithful God. I am not able, but You are.

Thank you!!! All glory to Your Name (:

LORD KNOWS IT'S KILLING ME. . .

So i put on my make up put a smile on my face and if anyone asks me everything is OK. I'm laughing 'cause no one knows the joke is on me. 'Cause I'm dying inside with my pride and a smile on my face. . . On my face singing, la la la, la la, lalala, la la, la la, la la, la la, la la, la la la. . .

My heart got broken when I found out today that the red 1992 model truck I've been dreaming to own is worth 530,000 pesos. Where can I get that money? Haaaayyyy. . . Still, I can't let go of that truck. It's hard to just let it slip off that way. Besides, how can you let go of something when you see it almost everyday crying 'BUY ME'. And for almost a year, my love for that car grew stronger and deeper :( Oh GoD, give me that car. I'm begging :'(

Bf, why you so cheesy? :D

I just asked her to scan something for me. And to my surprise, I am reading a Hallmarky note in my mailbox! Thumbs up, Balits. This made me laugh :D

Kayla and I are best friends since Jurassic years. I so love her. Dreaming of our future is our pastime, and uhm . . . is becoming more of a hobby. Like months ago, we thought of flying abroad, but ended up enrolling ourselves in the Graduate School. Last month, we thought of working in Manila. We have a lot of plans. We talk about all these when we see each other in class every Saturdays, and that's how often we change plans - every Saturdays :D (I told you, I mean it when I said it's our hobby)

If there's one mortal who can spell what's on my mind, it's Kay. We both have the complete list of those men who made and broke our hearts. And we both have the name of that one special prayer petition of who we want to end up with . Right time, right place, right chance . . . for our right ones.

Aaaaahhhhh todu, migflow ing pagka-cheesy? Haha.

LEARNED (and learning) THE ART OF SURRENDERING
Finally let go of my pasts. I've learned a lot from my mistakes. I realized that the saying "follow your heart" is not always true. The heart is deceitful above all things.

all these things, i declare that this year, they will be doubled up.
